Project Overview

This project is a 59-second trailer created to showcase Rocket League Creative Mode, a community-built map that allows players to create their own Rocket League maps using a wide library of objects and built-in tools.

The trailer was commissioned by a map creator named Ecrase-Patate, who approached me after seeing my work on YouTube and wanted a high-quality trailer that could clearly communicate the excitement of the project finally being released to the public.

Published on YouTube, Twitter / X, and Reddit, the trailer quickly gained traction across the Rocket League community, going viral despite being published on a relatively small creator's channel.

Role & Scope

I served as Editor & Creative Director, handling the project end-to-end.

Responsibilities included:

• Exploring the Creative Mode map firsthand to understand its functionality

• Collaborating with the creator to prioritize which features to highlight

• Writing the trailer script

• Recording narration

• Capturing all gameplay footage using Rocket League replay files

• Editing and pacing the trailer

• Animating the provided logo in After Effects

• Final delivery for multiple social platforms

Creative Direction

The goal of the trailer was to capture the feeling Rocket League fans had been waiting for — the excitement of finally having Creative Mode, something the official developers had never released despite years of community requests.

Creative priorities included:

• A fast, music-driven structure

• Clear feature callouts without slowing momentum

• A fun, empowering tone that invites players to experiment

• Balancing spectacle with clarity so features are immediately understandable

The client provided a simple reference trailer and a prioritized list of features, but otherwise gave full creative freedom to execute the trailer in my own style.

Editing & Style

The trailer is paced tightly around music, with energetic cuts and clean text animations designed for social feeds.

Key editing decisions included:

• Feature-focused sequencing to quickly communicate functionality

• Cinematic gameplay capture that remains readable and flows smoothly

• Momentum-driven pacing to sustain hype across the full 59 seconds

• Sound design accents to act as "ear-candy" and emphasize features

All gameplay footage was captured manually using Rocket League replay tools, ensuring consistent visual quality.

Logo Animation

The client provided a logo asset, which I animated in After Effects to establish clean, professional branding within the trailer.

Production & Collaboration

The project went through a single, minor revision round, focused mainly on small text adjustments. The initial cut was approved quickly, allowing for a smooth and efficient delivery.

Reception & Impact

Despite being released by a creator with only a few hundred subscribers, the trailer performed strongly across platforms:

15,000+ views on YouTube

93,000+ views on Twitter / X

• Widely shared across the Rocket League community

• Quoted and engaged with by major creators, including Lethamyr and amustycow

The trailer significantly boosted awareness of the Creative Mode map and helped position it as a major community release.
